::: Schizoid :::"enough is enough"
digital-hard-core-industrial
From D-Trash Records comes this CDR full of wake-up-the-neighbours-digi-core-mayhem
called Schizoid. On this 10 track 40 minute album you'll find a schizophrenic
mix of gabba-hard-core-techno blam-blam-blam-beats, monster movie samples,
gruff distorted ranting male vocals, samples of sped up records, and
god knows what else, crunching metallic guitars, spastic crescendoes
and breakdowns.... whew, it's full on. Wow, I've just had de-ja-vu writing
this review, maybe that's a side-effect.
Comparisons? Who does this sound like? Well, it's actually the first
band I've heard that sounds close to the way EYE sometimes DJ on the
radio and in nightclubs (and alienate a lot of people by doing so).
That is, having about 5 or more sound sources at once and mixing randomly
between them - chaos - trying to create the sound of the end of the
modern media world - the catharsis of being fed up with apathetic morons
who are afraid - wanting to hit some intelligence and belief in their
own ability to change things for the better into them - that's what
SCHIZOID aims for. Yes I can relate to this. But as for known names,
I guess the closest I've heard is early 90s electro-industrial stuff
like Leatherstrip and Klute. But this is much more interesting, varied,
in-your-face than those. This is also about something. I suppose Atari
Teenage Riot are an obvious comparison too... perhaps even early S.P.K.?
While I don't find any mention of specific issues on this CD, Schizoid
is a "wake up call" to all those who are allergic to thought. A wake
up call to get off your bum and actually start thinking, and doing something
to make the world a better place - to question all the rubbish that
the media, politics and all the rest spoonfed us with. A Schizoid motto:
"to deny the insanity or flee from it, is to submit to it and be at
the mercy of it!!" Yep, this is on a very similar wavelength to EYE,
e.l.f. and blatant propaganda productions, so of course, it gets the
big thumbs up. (You do have to be in the right mood to listen to this
though! Not advisable just before bed.)
