Once upon a time....

... there was a musical-propaganda outfit called EYE. For many years they wrote and distributed articles on a variety of controversial subjects and viewpoints. Members of EYE have numerous academic qualifications, have had articles published in many magazines and journals, have spent many aeons doing volunteer work for a wide variety of activist organisations and, on behalf of some of these groups, have lobbied politicians in person (via scheduled appointments ).

EYE have recorded a variety of musical noises, which feature these suppressed viewpoints, since the early 90s. One day in 1997, EYE decided to create a parent organisation for itself - Blatant Propaganda. This became the name of the zine and the record label.

The aim of the zine was to:

bring all the various bits of propaganda about different subjects together in one place;
promote other underground zines, labels and artists of a wide variety of genres; and
promote music released by Blatant Propaganda, such as EYE, E.L.F. and various compilations.

The first paper zine was published in mid-1998. It had 30 or so pages and about 500 copies made their way across the globe.

In mid 1999 issue #2 was born. It similarly had 32 or so pages packed with anti-propaganda, music reviews and underground network contact details. Over 1000 copies of it were set free upon an unsuspecting public. The price for each issue was only $1 each. Issue #3 was stillborn - we haven't found the spare time to finish if off and distribute it. However, most of what would have been in that issue is appearing bit by bit on this site.

This web-site was born in 1998. It has evolved through several incarnations to finally arrive at this one. You may come across a few of the second-generation pages in the music reviews section - they have some black backgrounds and overly-coloured text (!)

Many of the articles that appeared in the paper zines can be read in the "Propaganda" section. Likewise, most of the music reviews, plus many more, can be found in the "Review" section. Both of the paper issues are sold out.

We've reached several hundred thousand people via leaflets, zines, articles reprinted in glossy magazines and other underground zines, CDs, high rotation radio airplay of EYE and E.L.F. music (on well over 100 radio stations in Australia alone), national television airplay on two stations (in Australia), street stalls, posters, stickers and this web-site. Mind you, many other people have been responsible for this exposure - many thanks to them.
