music reviewParadox ::: "New Devotion"euro-gothic-danceFrom the very isolated city of Perth comes yet another very promising electro act - Paradox. The Paradox sound is a combination of early 80s new romantic, synth-pop and gothic trance-techno. Think early Depeche Mode meets St. Etienne, Sunscreem, Single Gun Theory and Delerium. The two standout tracks are "Submission" and "Romantic". They both highlight the strongest aspect of Paradox's music: a stomping techno beat, chugging bass, ethereal mystical trance synth lines, and superb dreamy female vocals. These tracks are both infectious, catchy and strong contenders for nightclub, JJJ and even commercial radio airplay. The other tracks interchange between diverse new-wave gothic-electro-pop male and female lead vocals, beats and moods. While there are some great moments, they don't quite match up to the splendour of the afore-mentioned tracks. 14 tracks span 54 minutes. Available for $29.95 from: Urban myth music, 6a Baxter place, Morley, 6062, WA Australia.[email protected] Web: http://www.isisrecordsinc.com/Paradoxx or available in the USA from ISIS Records web: http://www.space.net.au/~rd3/ |
