The Oppenheimer Project ::: "The Effects of Sunlight"

electronica

A snazzy 8-track 40-minute collection of electronica tracks by Ernie - who also goes under the moniker of the Photon Belt. The CD starts with the ambient late-night traffic sounds and cruisy mellow basslines of "Sydney Road 2am". Next up is the junglish and piano melody piece "perpetuity" which is featured on the"Blatant Propaganda" CD. "It's been a long time" is the only track with vocals and sounds slightly Beastie Boy-ish.

"The Spy" is the highlight of the album for me. Think of mega-sexy/sleazy brass lines from late-60s/1970s detective films over trip-hop beats and some sparse and very tasty jazz guitar. It fits alongside pieces such as Barry Adamsons' "Man with the golden gun" and Artificial's "Authority over the fish". "The effects of sunlight on single-celled organisms" is a way cool laid back late night bassy piece of jazz ambience. Nex t is another version of "Perpetuity" and to rap up the proceedings is "Sydney Road 4am". Highly recommended stuff.

$8 from: Subversive Records - PO Box 579 Port Melbourne Vic 3207 Australia.
