music review:

Black Lung ::: "the wonderful & frightening World of black lung"

avant-garde-electronic-dementia

Here's the latest output from The Crypt of David Thrussel. 120+ minutes of electronic warblings and insect-metallic-synth-splatter beats spread over 2 Cds. Musically this is the most complex Black Lung album and it's also my favourite. While I'm a big fan of the sibling Snog and Soma music projects, and thought Black Lung was o.k. I'd never really really dug it... well, at least compared to the other two. Well, this one "I dig". Musically this fits alongside Autechre and Speedy J and even Locust's album "Truth is Born of Arguments." However, I was bit concerned about the liner notes on this album. In the past you could expect some revealing suppressed/conspiratorial information of note. But this time, you get some "channelled" diatribes (which are o.k. though they remind me of the kind of thing I used to write when I was stoned years and years ago) and some blah about princess diana's death and something about michael jackson's bowel problems - the latter being the kind of stuff you'd expect in a tabloid newspaper or a dodgy comedy show. Has me puzzled - why use valuable space for that? Oh well. Anyway, the music & production is great. If you like dark and bizarre electronic music then you'll certainly dig this.

Out on Rollercoaster Recordings, via MDS distro.
