Originally known as "aya", ELF has featured on over 12 compilation CDs, is very popular on mp3.com (40,000+ downloads in 6 months (2000)) has had tracks featured on the "mix-up" show on the national Australian Radio station Triple J, as well as regular airplay on numerous Australian Community Radio stations. All this, without having released an official (factory-pressed) CD. THE SOUND:ELF noises range from radio-friendly electronica, through thumping electro, house, big-beat and trance, to quirky glitchcore and crunching industrial drum & bass and ambient acid. INFLUENCES:Acts & labels that inspire the music of The ELF include: Kraftwerk, Pitch Black, Autechre, The Aphex Twin, Soma, Chemical Brothers, Sven Vath, Fat Boy Slim, Orbital, Delerium, Black Lung, Psychic Warriors of Gaia, Concord Dawn, Ju Ju Space Jazz, The Organarchy Sound System Collective (eg. Non Bossy Posse), Clan Analogue artists (eg. Dark Network), Daft Punk, Underground Resistance, The Orb, the Dubtribe Sound System, Carl Cox, Little Nobody, Speedy J, Locust, Test Dept, Warp Records, Ras Al Ghul, Guinea-Pig, If? Records, Edgecore Productions & many more. HISTORY:ELF was born in 1996 during the hey-day of Canberra's Clan Analogue collective; which also spawned B(if)tek, Artificial and Dark Network. ELF's formation was chiefly inspired by being part of the one-off "Stoat" supergroup which headlined on the Clan Analogue stage at the 1996 Sydney Big Day Out. Stoat also included members of B(if)tek, Artificial and Dark Network. PLAYING LIVE:The organiser of Radio 2XX's 26th Birthday gig, had this to say about ELF's set: "You guys are totally fantastic... brilliant music. You really did make everyone excited and into it. They all just got up and danced, as well as being fascinated too. Truely thank-you, from Sylvie." (Sylvie Stern, radio 2XX presenter, and manager of Canberra's main alternative nightclub through the 1990s, Heaven.) When performing live the ELF duo are known to appear in white druid robes, surrounded by smoke and flashing strobes. Sets incorporate sequenced material that is re-mixed live along with plenty of live improvised keyboards, drum-pad-machines, samples, knob-twiddling and vocal effects. Until this year (2002), ELF was a very part-time studio hobby. That's
changing. ELF re-commenced regular gigs in 2001. They headlined at gigs
